They should, but they won't. I fully expect that by the time we see "windows 12" that possibility will be fully eliminated.
Ironically they may have to in order to stay relevant. I'd be surprised if you could find a teenager today that if you asked "would you pay extra for an iphone or android phone that you could use without an apple/google account would you?" that their answer wouldn't be "why would I want that? I'd be cut off from the whole ecosystem!"

> I'd be cut off from the whole ecosystem!
The decision to tie participating in the ecosystem and having an online account, is precisely the topic of that complaint.

We’re already past that point, Win 11 cannot be installed without an MS account (at least not without some cmdline trickery)

"…they should stop forcing people to create an online Microsoft Account."
Proof positive it's mostly cosmetic, deeply problematic issus remain or we'd be able to uninstall Copilot.

This is genuinely the least of my concerns. I just want the OS to be fast and lean.

Copilot's AI is far inferior to the agents in Claude Cowork or OpenClaw. And I think it still uses the OpenAI GPT 4o . Microsoft also put AI everywhere, and with very poor quality.

Decent models cost money, is the reality of it.
“less copilot” is because they can’t charge for it, so the model is crap, so no-one wants it, so they are removing it where it’s useless.
They won’t be the last.

I wonder if MS regrets pouring so much money into OpenAI.

thats cool, they have to cut it out with the onedrive thing as well.

This is an article about the press release, not the release itself.

The bubble is really popping?

For starters, they should stop forcing people to create an online Microsoft Account.
